The StyleCareers.com Technical Designer Salary Survey was conducted in February of 2020. In addition to compensation, we asked Technical Designers about their education, the benefits offered by their employers and had them rate their companies on a 5-Star scale.
With over 250 salary data points recorded, here are some of the highlights…
For 2020, the average Technical Designer in the US makes $84,207.00 p/year. In the New York Metropolitan Area, that average is almost $10,000.00 more at $94,816.00 p/year.
The typical Technical Designer in the US is college-educated with 94% of the respondents claiming to have associates, bachelors or advanced degrees. Technical Designers with bachelors or advanced degrees make about $6,000.00 more p/year than those with associates degrees.
Companies that employ Technical Designers full-time are very likely to offer healthcare (99%), dental (92%), and vision (84%) coverage. About 80% have a 401K program for their full-time employees.
Overall, Technical Designers are happy with their employers. Nationally, on a 5-star rating system, Tech Designers give their employers 3.5 stars on average. Entry-level professionals gave their employers the highest ratings (4 stars) on average with Mid-Senior Level (non-management) Tech Designers giving the lowest ratings (3.3 stars).
