How was Fourth Floor started?
FF: The Fourth Floor brand was created because we saw increasing demand for high caliber talent in the rapidly expanding fashion industry. In 2009, we knew it was time to add Fourth Floor to the Career Group Companies family. Career Group Companies had a proven track record of being a leader in the world of recruiting. Our inside knowledge gave us the ability to bring high-touch service and partnership to fashion companies needing top talent.
What is the story/significance behind the name?
FF: Our Founder and President, Susan Levine, has a personal story related to the brand name. As a native Angeleno and avid connoisseur of fashion, she always kept the memory of shopping and exploring luxury fashion with her mom close to her heart. From a young age, she remembered the rush of excitement as the elevator doors opened on the 4th floor of her favorite iconic, luxury department store. She had a lifelong passion for style, and our firm became an extension of her journey. Today, we work with leading contemporary and luxury brands that remind her of the 4th floor.

What do you look for in a fashion recruiter?
FF: We look for people who love fashion and working with people. The best fashion recruiters are obsessed with the trends of this ever-changing industry. We value excellent communicators with an interest in the market, keeping up with trends and building lasting relationships. We’re drawn to warm, goal-oriented individuals with a strong sense of style and passion about finding the best talent. The ideal match is everything to us, both externally and internally. Our team consists of thoughtful recruiters who are true strategic partners possessing the highest degree of integrity.
How/why did you choose your specific locations?
FF: Our firm is headquartered in Los Angeles. We expanded to San Francisco, Silicon Valley, New York and Greenwich, CT. Considering how influential we are in the space, it made sense for us to be in New York.
We do have a nationwide Event Team that specializes in recruiting for fashion events around the country, including sample sales, pop up stores, merchandising assistants, grand store openings and seasonal staff during holidays. Our Event Team is able to staff national fashion events in nearly every city in the country.
How does your firm hope to grow in the future?
FF: We are already growing at a rapid pace and gaining market share due to our valuable relationships, our other brands (Career Group, Syndicatebleu and Avenue Pacific) and transparent approach to recruiting. We see a bright future ahead and are so excited to grow with all of our candidates and client partnerships. Their loyalty has enabled us to change the recruiting landscape and gain exposure to more opportunities. We never take our business for granted as we will always appreciate the relationships formed throughout the years.
