Tell us a little about yourself.workshopLA taylor bio pic
TA:
I was born in Henderson, Nevada and moved to LA after high school to attend FIDM Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. After graduating, I took a design role at a swimwear company where I was really able to learn the ins and outs of the industry. I left this role and after interviewing with several recruiting agencies I felt that I could see myself working as a recruiter! I accepted a role in recruiting and I have loved it ever since!
It combines my passion of the fashion industry with helping great talent find jobs.

Why would a fashion industry job seeker want to work at/with The Workshop LA?
TA:
We are a great added resource for candidates. We really know the job market, and work with many clients exclusively that aren’t posting all the positions online. We know the industry and the hiring managers that we work with and we are able to guide you through the process.

What types of fashion industry positions do you recruit for?
TA:
Most of the roles that a corporate fashion company would hire for, we recruit for! Design, Technical Design, Production, Product Development, Sales, Customer Service, Patternmaking, Buying, Operations, E-Commerce, and more.

What sources do you use the most to find fashion industry talent?
TA:
We are very active on social media. We post daily updates on our hottest jobs and this way our talent can reach out and refer friends to the roles that fit them best @theworkshop_la. We also post on jobs boards such as Stylecareers, our website, partner with FIDM and other fashion schools in LA, and of course LinkedIn.

What should job seekers know about your job as a recruiter?
TA: We are really here to help you, the talent. We in turn really need your honestly and dedication to the search. If we don’t know all the information it only makes it harder for us to advocate on your behalf.

What’s the craziest thing a job seeker has ever said to you?
TA:
Oh .. there are soo many!  I would say when it comes to some personal details those are better kept to yourself..

What’s the most inappropriate thing you’ve seen on a resume?
TA:
Photos, misspelling, age, marital status, long list of hobbies. Keep your resume concise and professional.

What advice do you have for younger job seekers?
TA:
Intern! When your starting out your career I definitely recommend taking on internships. It really helps you to realize exactly what you want to do as well as builds your resume. I also really recommend being open to freelance/temporary positions. While I understand that when you graduate you really want a fulltime role, starting out freelance is a great way to get you in the door with an established brand.

What are some common mistakes fashion industry job seekers make during the job search process?
TA:
You really need to be on top of it from start to finish. From having no spelling errors on your resume to always arriving on time if not 5 minutes early to the interview. Research the brand that your interviewing with a be well prepared for your interview.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
TA:
You can add us on instagram for daily job updates @theworkshop_la and apply to positions at jobs@theworkshop.la
